ENERGY STORAGE SOLUTIONS
The case for businesses to install battery storage at this point in time is primarily to reduce peak demand charges, shift mains grid electricity consumption profiles and to make the most of solar power.
If a business is operating 9-5, five days a week, there are periods where any solar panel electricity that’s generated isn’t used and is exported to the mains grid for just a few cents per kilowatt hour. In some parts of Australia, this surplus electricity cannot be exported and is therefore essentially wasted.
This is energy that could be stored in batteries for use when electricity rates are sky-high at certain times of the day.
Another benefit is in shifting electricity consumption profiles. If energy stored in a battery is tapped during peak rate periods, there may be substantial savings to be had in terms of demand charges; which can account for a significant portion of a company’s annual electricity cost.
Living Energy provides two possible solutions to this using Telsa Powerpack and Eccoult Energy Storage solutions.
Tesla Powerpacks house the world’s most sophisticated batteries. Each Powerpack is a DC energy storage device containing 16 individual battery pods, a thermal control system and hundreds of sensors that monitor and report on cell level performance.
Powerpack is a fully integrated, AC-connected energy storage system with everything needed to connect to a building or utility network. It dramatically simplifies installation, integration and future support, offering system-wide benefits that far outweigh those of standalone batteries
The Powerpack system scales to the space, power and energy requirements of any site, from small commercial businesses to regional utilities. It can be configured in various arrangements, offering far more modularity than competing models.
Powerpack supports a host of applications that offer commercial consumers and energy providers greater control, efficiency and reliability across the electric grid.
Tesla has been building integrated battery systems in cars for over 10 years. The same degree of expertise, quality control and technological innovation has informed our process of developing high-performance batteries for the grid.
Every Powerpack contains 16 individual battery pods, each with an isolated DC-DC converter. Pod architecture and onboard power electronics optimize performance across the array and enable easy swapping at any time.
Powerpacks use a high volume, high reliability architecture tested over the one billion miles driven in Model S. Combined with hundreds of embedded sensors, Powerpack offers unparalleled performance, safety and reliability.
An internal liquid cooling and heating system allows for pinpoint temperature control within a Powerpack. A dual coolant and refrigerant loop system, adapted from Model S, ensures maximum performance in all climates with better efficiency than air cooling.
Powerpack’s enclosure is outdoor rated for all environments. No additional structures or covers are required, simplifying installation and lowering site preparation expenses.
Ecoult's UltraPod, UltraFlex and UltraMax units make up the kW-scale of UltraBattery products. Between them the UltraBattery products cover every conceivable storage need – from the owner of a single dwelling wanting to maximize self-consumption of the PV on the roof, to the industrial, mining or agricultural client needing to provide bursts of pure grunt for pump start-ups, load lifting or heavy machinery. The benefits of the UltraBattery solution are clear for both residential and commercial clients.
UltraBattery was invented by Australia’s CSIRO, and is the powerhouse behind all of Ecoult’s world-leading energy storage solutions.
For modern energy storage applications such as grid regulation and renewable smoothing, which require continuous charge and discharge, we believe UltraBattery is the best cycling battery in the world.
Large UltraBattery systems operate all over the world, bringing the power, energy, safety and sustainability of lead-acid batteries and the continuous cycling of a powerful ultracapacitor together in a single technology that is the equal of any cycling battery ever produced.
For commercial and small-scale industrial applications, as well as any residential products (between 4 and 20 kW), Living Energy can supply multiple units or the larger UltraMax – the largest Ecoult kW-scale unit, nominally 70 kW and 480 V.These products provide:
- CSIRO-developed UltraBattery technology
- Shifting of energy from high- to low-tariff periods, shaving of peaks to lower demand charges, and improvement of power quality
- Backup for critical loads such as computers, servers and other equipment
- High cycle life, efficiency and power (publicly tested by SANDIA and other world-leading laboratories)
- 50° C temperature tolerance for hot environments
Easy installation with indoor and outdoor options
